Prayer of Dedication

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you are with us; that you will never leave us or forsake us. We thank you for the gift that is access to you through prayer. You have communicated to us through your perfect Word, and the fact that we are able to communicate with you, the Almighty God of the universe, can sometimes be taken for granted. So today we take time to be grateful and to thank you for that blessing. We pray that today, as we spend time in your Word, and in song, and in prayer that we would walk away affected—whether that be through encouragement, hope, challenge, or perhaps even rebuke. Give us a mind that is open and willing to hear the message you have given and a heart that is willing to intentionally do something about it.

Call to Worship*

“Teach me your way, Lord,
that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.
I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever” (Psalm 86:11–12).

Worship in Song

Let’s take time now to listen to these songs of praise, noticing together the powerful, Scripture-soaked truths therein (click the Play button to listen).

Victory in Jesus

“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:56–57).

Came to My Rescue

“When I called, you answered me; you greatly emboldened me” (Psalm 138:3).

Lord, I Need You

“You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay” (Psalm 40:17b).

We Fall Down

“‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come” (Revelation 4:8b).

Pastoral Prayer

Father God, you are holy and we thank you for that truth. We pray that we would willingly give of ourselves to you. That we would submit to you, and concern ourselves with pleasing you rather than pleasing ourselves or others around us. Help us to be faithful, God, to the call of obedience as we worship you and learn from you and tell others about you. Help us to rely on you for the strength to endure, by the power of your Holy Spirit.

More than anything, we thank you for Jesus Christ, who came and died on our behalf to pay the cost of our sin. We thank you that he did not stay in the grave, but he rose in victory over sin and death, and ascended to sit at your right hand. The ultimate gift of grace is salvation through faith in your Son Jesus, so we praise you and thank you for that.

We take time to repent now, Lord, for the times that our faithfulness has been lacking. When sin and temptation has gotten the better of us. We thank you that even in our imperfection and brokenness, your love never fails and your faithfulness remains true. We thank you that we can trust in your Word that our sins have been paid for and can be forgiven if we ask.

Father, as we turn now to your Word, we pray that we would hear it clearly. Speak through your servant Lew, and use this message to sanctify us, and create in us a longing for Christlikeness. Give us your guidance and direction, and the strength to apply it.

Worship in Giving

Even in these trying times, we are reminded of the commands in the New Testament to give generously, sacrificially, and with joy. Giving is still available online or via e-transfer (see eService email for details).

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:6–8).

We Believe

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved” (Romans 10:9–10).

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you” (2 Thessalonians 3:16).
