Below is an abridged September 2023 update from the Wahab family, servants of the Lord at Camp Good News in Florida and an extension of our Oakridge church family.
Camp Good News update
Dear faithful friends, I hope your summer was enjoyable and a blessing to all those around you.
As we reflect on this past summer at Camp Good News, we are reminded of the joy of ministering with fellow believers and our call to ‘Go and make Disciples!’ Our two most popular weeks of the summer were ‘Water Extravaganza Week’ and ‘Fishing Week.’ Some of our best Bible times and devotions with the children included ‘Encounters with Jesus,’ ‘The Fruit of the Spirit’, ‘A CEF Missionary story from Vietnam’, and ‘The Parables of Jesus.’
Our last week’s theme was Grand Prix races where the children would build their own wooden cars and race them at the end of the week for prizes culminating in an awards ceremony. What a blast! (see pictures link below) Sarah Gracey did a tremendous job (along with the renowned puppet George the Dog) teaching the children about a much greater race to be lived—one for all eternity with God. We witnessed two additional professions of faith that week. This brings our total professions of faith for the summer to fifteen along with three re-dedications. Praise the Lord! Pray that these children will continue to grow and seek after God!
During the summer, we had the privilege to minister to various churches on the Wednesday night or Sunday morning services. We finished the summer off by leading the service in praise and worship along with a skit and testimonies at Waldo Baptist Church. This summer has been particularly fruitful as we have seen many of these counselors spiritually exercised in wanting to serve the Lord. It’s a real gift to be right in the midst of lives being changed into the image of His Son!
As a request from the counselors, we will be continuing an online Bible study version of our summer Discipleship Leadership Program beginning in September. This past month also marks when our daughter Joy decided to follow the Lord Jesus through the waters of Baptism. We praise the Lord that great things are happening!
The balance of August has been reorganizing the various buildings, to lawn care maintenance and tying up loose ends. As a family, we took two weeks off to catch up on much-needed rest from around-the-clock camp for the last three months.
Through God’s provisions, we look forward to and pray for the sports pavilion to be built over the basketball court hopefully in the next month or so.
