OAKRIDGE BIBLE CHAPEL

The Best-Laid Plans of Kings and Men (2 Samuel 15:1–17:29)

David’s kingdom is unravelling. His son Absalom has turned against him, the hearts of Israel have been stolen, and even his trusted counsellor has joined the rebellion. Forced to flee Jerusalem, David faces an uncertain future, with little indication of how the promises God made to him can possibly be fulfilled. Yet the rebellion’s apparent success conceals a very different reality. While Absalom confidently pursues his plans, the Lord is at work, frustrating the counsel of the rebellious and sustaining David through the loyalty and kindness of others. God’s judgment upon David has not meant the abandonment of his promises, nor does his sovereign care mean the immediate removal of David’s troubles. The best-laid plans of kings and men may fail, but the purposes of the Lord never will.

Josiah has served the Oakridge Bible Chapel family as one of its elders and one of its pastoral staff members since September 2018, before which he ministered as an associate pastor to a local congregation in the Canadian prairies. Josiah's desire is to be used by God to help equip the church for ministry, both while gathered (edification) and while scattered (evangelization). He is married to Patricia, and together they have five children—Jonah, Henry, Nathaniel, Josephine, and Benjamin.
