Below is a prayer update sent to the Oakridge Bible Chapel family from Brian and Sally Seim, missionaries who serve the Lord with SIM Canada as an extension of OBC’s gospel ministry.
August Updates
I (Brian) successfully completed my Mock Viva (i.e., a practice oral examination) on July 17. Thank you for your prayers. As a result, I was given several helpful suggestions for completing the doctoral thesis:
- The reorganization of part of the material
- The revision of some points that were not as conclusive as they could be
- Further engagement and development with authors in the literature review (an essential part of a PhD thesis)
- More editing
The probable time of my viva, i.e., oral examination, is between November 2023 and January 2024.
August Prayer Concerns
- ESL curriculum development (Sally and Brian), along with an added “words of Jesus” class
- Re-writing, re-reading, and re-organizing portions of my thesis for my examination
- Prepare Seminar for October ESL: “A Great Beginning; More Ways to Minister to Newcomers in a Superdiverse City”
- Continue developing, inviting, and working on the Share the Light e-conference (November 18, 2023)
- Organizing and chairing a panel discussion on International Student Ministry for the conference
Other highlights in the month included a horseback riding event for the campers at the camp, and a fun tubing event for the counselors.
By job title, Alice is the office administrator at Oakridge. But her behind-the-scenes efforts go far beyond that! She is actively involved in the leadership team for the Tuesday evening women's bible study, she is on the mission committee, and she has recently both stepped into the leadership of church bridal and baby shower celebrations, and started teaching in our Ozone kids program. Oh, and if you see any special seasonal or holiday decorations around the church, it's a safe bet that Alice was involved!
