OAKRIDGE BIBLE CHAPEL

Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire (Mark 11:1–25)

If your tooth is sensitive and it hurts to smile, you probably have a dental issue to address. If your car is rattling and most of the lights on the dashboard are winking at you, you probably have a mechanical problem to take care of. Why? Because where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire; where there are symptoms, there’s likely an illness.

The Bible warns the church of many potential problems—doctrinal drift and false teachers, arrogance and division, abuse and infighting. These fires, so to speak, can burn to the ground any community of believers if the smoke goes unnoticed or ignored. God does not want that for his people, nor do his people want that for their God! We want to be attentive in the present, committed to learning from the past, and relying on his power for the future.

Josiah has served the Oakridge Bible Chapel family as one of its elders and one of its pastoral staff members since September 2018, before which he ministered as an associate pastor to a local congregation in the Canadian prairies. Josiah's desire is to be used by God to help equip the church for ministry, both while gathered (edification) and while scattered (evangelization). He is married to Patricia, and together they have five children—Jonah, Henry, Nathaniel, Josephine, and Benjamin.
