OAKRIDGE BIBLE CHAPEL

The Book of Isaiah (Cover-to-Cover Series)

We’ve got our work cut out for us this week as we arrive in our study at the impressive and prophetic book of Isaiah. “Of all the books in the OT, Isaiah is perhaps the richest. Its literary grandeur is unequaled. Its scope is unparalleled. The breadth of its view of God is unmatched. In so many ways it is a book of superlatives. Thus it is no wonder that Isaiah is the most quoted prophet in the NT, and along with Psalms and Deuteronomy, one of the most frequently cited of all OT books. Study of it is an opportunity for unending inspiration and challenge” (Oswald, 3).

To help us get our minds around this massive and important section of Scripture we welcome to the podcast Dr. Jim Harmeling. Dr. Harmeling and his wife, Jacqui, moved to Singapore in 2018 as missionaries to train pastors in Asia in expository preaching and church leadership. Together they serve under Shepherds International based in North Carolina. They have five grown children living in the United States.

After pastoring churches in California and Tennessee for over twenty years, Dr. Harmeling—along with his wife, Jacqui—relocated to Singapore in 2018 for the purpose of being used by God to train Asian pastors in expository preaching and church leadership. His passion is teaching God’s word to God's people, witnessing them grow to maturity in the faith, and seeing the local church functioning with vibrancy and purity.

Josiah has served the Oakridge Bible Chapel family as one of its elders and one of its pastoral staff members since September 2018, before which he ministered as an associate pastor to a local congregation in the Canadian prairies. Josiah's desire is to be used by God to help equip the church for ministry, both while gathered (edification) and while scattered (evangelization). He is married to Patricia, and together they have five children—Jonah, Henry, Nathaniel, Josephine, and Benjamin.
